Fritschi Vipec EVO 12
The lightest alpine ski binding with downhill properties and safe release during ascent and descent. Now reinforced with carbon and fiberglass.
The Fritschi Vipec EVO 12 binding is designed for ski mountaineers who require high safety, reliability and excellent riding characteristics on demanding descents. It is suitable for ski mountaineers after lower limb injuries or as a universal binding for ski touring, ski alpinism and downhill skiing in resorts.
The main advantages of the Fritschi Vipec EVO 12 binding:
- It switches off reliably and with Swiss precision only at the moment of a fall, not when the terrain is uneven (the tip and heel of the binding can absorb shocks thanks to dynamic elasticity).
- It also turns off in walking mode – if you are buried by an avalanche, lose your balance while climbing, or fall during short descents on the tracks.
- Stiff downhill heel for perfect power transfer from the feet to the skis - perfect downhill properties.
- The sliding heel adapts to the curvature of the ski.
- Possibility to switch from walking mode to downhill mode without untying the boots.
- Mastering the ability to bind with a pole while standing is a bonus that will make a day-long hike more enjoyable.
Highest safety with spike bindings
The Fritschi Vipec EVO 12 ski touring binding is based on the design of a downhill binding, where the tip releases to the sides according to the DIN release force setting. Thanks to this, it releases precisely under rotational forces and torsional fractures do not occur. Health and safety is the main principle that the Swiss manufacturer Fritschi addresses when developing its products. Safety is more important than weight.
Only turns off binding when you really need it
With classic toe bindings, it is easy to accidentally release when descending, which can have fatal consequences on steep descents. The design of the toe of the Vipec EVO 12 binding has a dynamic elasticity of 13 mm, which in other words can be imagined as a clearance for absorbing the forces arising from riding over bumps or sudden impacts. Even when riding vigorously on hard or heavy snow, there is no accidental release.
- The Fritschi Vipec EVO 12 does not turn off too early, but only after overcoming a travel of 13 mm and 2 mm upwards at the heel.
- This travel is sufficient to consume energy so that the binding does not accidentally switch off after briefly exceeding the set DIN tripping force - during a jump or impact on an uneven surface.
- The binding disengages even with the tip set to walking - an important feature when buried by an avalanche, losing balance while climbing, or falling during short descents on tracks.
The dynamic elasticity of the Fritschi Vipec EVO 12 binding is the same as the downhill bindings that Fritschi has been producing for more than 30 years and today uses this know-how in the development of alpine ski bindings.
Stiff heel and perfect downhill properties
The rigid, non-rotating heel without joint has no play and allows direct transfer of forces from the ski boot to the edge of the ski. This results in better controllability and safety when riding. Better transfer of forces is also achieved by:
- by resting the ski boot on the heel pad,
- large screw spacing,
- by attaching the heel directly to the ski,
- a large and wide contact area under the toe and heel.
The heel of the binding is loaded with 4x more force than the tip when riding, which is why the Vipec EVO 12 has a sensitive tip and a stiff heel. Thanks to the precise transfer of load to the edge of the ski, you will fully enjoy your ride.
Excellent skiing thanks to the active heel
The active sliding heel adapts to the ski boot by up to 10 mm when the ski bends during the ride and allows the ski to bend smoothly along its entire length, which is a necessary feature of the binding for perfect skiing. Bindings that do not have an active heel will cause the ski to bend, stiffen the middle and the ski will bend only in front of and behind the binding, which significantly worsens its riding characteristics. Fritschi has eliminated this problem, which is why the Vipec EVO 12 binding is also great for all-day skiing at the resort.
Easy to turn on even on steep slopes
The new generation Fritschi Vipec EVO 12 has an innovative tip that you can "kick" even blindly because it has:
- stops from below,
- stops from the sides,
- ski toe stop,
- sensitive trigger.
Thanks to this, the tip of the ski boot is precisely guided to the correct position when fastening - it is located between the tips and the sensitive trigger and, with just a little pressure, releases the tips, which fit precisely into the inserts in the ski boot.
Safe and pleasantly light alpine ski bindings
The weight of the equipment is also important, which is why the Fritschi Vipec EVO 12 binding is made of carbon and fiberglass, which are now complemented by proven modern polymers. From design to production, everything takes place in Switzerland. Carbon and fiberglass reinforced polymers are lighter than metal parts and at the same time have higher strength and durability. While low weight is very important, the Fritschi brand always prioritizes safety and reliability.
Other key binding features
- Comfortable control with a pole – during the ascent and switching to the descent, the Fritschi Vipec EVO 12 binding can be controlled only with a pole without the need to bend over to bind.
- Switching from downhill to ascent without taking off your ski boots – with the Vipec EVO 12 binding you can conveniently switch from downhill to walking with a pole by moving your heel backwards. You will appreciate this on ridge tours, short downhill passages during the ascent, when it is safer to fasten your heel to the downhill position on the straps.
- It doesn't freeze - the Fritsichi Vipec EVO 12 alpine ski binding is designed to prevent snow from getting inside it, which could compact and turn into ice. Therefore, the binding works reliably in any snow and temperature.
- Adjustable binding dimensions – The heel of the binding is adjustable up to 25 mm (60 mm when using a rental pad). The binding is not compatible with “noseless” ski boots TLT 7, TLT 8, DNA, PDG.
- Re-drilling for any ski – Fritschi Vipec EVO 12 has easily replaceable brakes (80/ 90/ 100/ 110/ 120 mm) and thanks to this, the bindings can be re-drilled for any other ski.
- Harnesses – the binding is compatible with harnesses and there is no need to unbuckle when putting them on. The binding is also adapted for the use of a safety cable.
